Hey, i was wondering if anyone got their financial aid package yet? the office says that they are missing my mom's W-2s and source of untaxed income (she gets a pension from the VA). Will this hurt the amount of financial aid i get? is it first come first serve? bc i need a lot of aid and i REALLY REALLY want to go to Lafayette!!

I tried to call them but the office is closed on Saturdays and im afraid that monday is too late. Also, my mom's situation has changed a lot since I filed the FAFSA and CSS profile. Please help me with any advice bc i am extremely worried that I wont be able to afford Lafayette and I wont be able to go :(

Boonies13,

You need to call up the Office of Financial Aid at (610) 330-5055 to speak with someone about the changes in your family's financial situation.

From the Financial Aid portion of Lafayette's website:

"The financial aid office offers both personal and phone appointments. Just call (610) 330-5055 and request an appointment at a convenient time. If you choose a phone appointment, the time will be reserved for you just as if you were coming in personally. This method allows the director to have your information available and ensures no interruptions."

If it can't wait until Monday at 9:00am, you really have no other options.

hey, sorry i havent been on in a long time
I got my financial aid package and its $36,160. I had a question about the HELP and Stafford loans. Are they good loans? My mom told me about Sallie Mae loans. Which should I take?

Thanks alot candyman

Boonies13,

The HELP loan is very, well....helpful! The greatest thing about the HELP loan is that the College pays the interest on the loan while you are enrolled at Lafayette. For more information, visit: http://www.lafayette.edu/admissions/finaid/help.html.

Federal Stafford Loans work like many other loans. You pay interest on the loan, but repayment is deferred until six months after graduation. For more information, visit: http://www.salliemae.com/get_student_loan/find_student_loan/undergrad_student_loan/federal_student_loans/stafford_loans/.

With the Sallie Mae loans, people say they have a difficult time actually making their regular monthly payments. All of their processes are online, and some people wish they offered a paper-based option. For information on the loans offered by Sallie Mae, visit: http://www.salliemae.com/get_student_loan/find_student_loan/undergrad_student_loan/student_loan_types/.

I am not as knowledgeable about students loans as I probably should be. Even so, I hope this helps.

uchechukwu owo,

You will most likely not receive a response on the "Lafayette College" message board. Consider reposting your question in the "Graduate School" portion of this forum.
