Fin. Aid awards???

Looked for D on line--fin. aid awards not yet posted.

Anyone have any idea when fin. aid packages for RD acceptances will be out?

MADad,

From the ‘First-Time Applicants’ portion of the Financial Aid webpage:

<<< Financial aid applicants who complete the application requirements by the specified deadlines and are accepted under Lafayette’s regular admission program will be notified of aid awards within two weeks of receiving their admissions decision and no later than April 10, 2009. >>>

Hope this helps.

Candyman indicated that finacial aid applicants will be notified of aid awards within two weeks of recieving their admissions decisions. Does the same hold true for merit scholarships? I realize that Marquis Scholars were notified of their awards a few weeks ago, but is there other merit money besides the Marquis Scholarships? My d. was accepted at Lafayette, but there was no mention of a merit scholarship, which I thought unusual because she received money from other similar schools. Does anyone have this information?

MissInformed,

The Marquis Scholarship is the only academically-based merit scholarship currently offered by Lafayette.

Thanks, Justin.

Justin,

Daughter received her packgage yesterday. Can you help explain it to us?

our efc-$26,000
Lafayette College Grant- $20,000
Federal Perkins Loan $ 1,000
Subsidized Stafford Loan $ 3,500
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan $2,000
Federal Work Study $ 2,000

Thanks,

firstyearmom1,

What are you confused about regarding your daughter’s financial aid package? She has been offered a $20,000 grant to offset the cost of tuition; this amount need not be paid back to the College. The federal loans/FWS are optional ways you might consider to pay the difference.

Justin,

With this packgage, do I still have to come out of my pocket! It was to my understanding that if you make under $100,000, they would meet our need.
did I miss something, please help!
Thanks,

firstyearmom1,

Yes, with that package as it currently stands, you will have to cough up some serious $$$.

Here’s the new policy you’re referring to:

<<< Beginning in 2009-10, Lafayette will also limit the loan portions of need-based financial-aid packages awarded to students from families whose incomes are between $50,000 and $100,000 and whose financial assets are typical of families with this annual income level. Loans will be limited to $2,500 per year. >>>

I guess your financial assets are not typical of families with that annual income level? That line sounds like an easy way for Fin. Aid to do as they please with this revised policy.

I’d definitely call up the Office of Fin. Aid at 610-330-5055 on Monday and set up a phone appointment so you can discuss your concerns with someone who’s more knowledgeable about this than me.

I should add that Lafayette says it “meets the demonstrated need” of all admitted students. This new policy goes beyond “meeting need” by reducing ($50,000 - $100,000 income) and/or entirely eliminating loans (<$50,000 income) from financial aid packages.

Justin,

Thanks for clearing that up, and the advice.
