Financial aid packages???

Do people remember when they got theres from prior years? I'm a GT so I can't help but I do want u to know when u will so that u don't live in agony for the next while.

Yes, Cornell meets 100% of need but in any way they see fit. In our situation the need was in the neighborhood of $14,000. About $12,000 was in the self-help category which means loans and work-study.

does anyone know what the aid package for Cornell is like? for example, how many percentage of it is supposed to be loan and % for grants? Is there even such data in the first place? How does cornell make the decision of how much grants/loans it's giving? Randomnly? based on how much it wants you to attend? or like some kind of organizer that tells the fin aid ppl how much to give to each individual?

also, what's the likelyhood of having Cornell put some of the "estimate of resources" contribution under grant, meaning could I maybe ask Cornell to give me more "grants" not "loans" so that my family doesn't have to pay as much?

has anyone ever done this before?

thanx in advance : )

Middle class can get in that whole middle class hole of more loans. Lower class definitely gets more grants tho. It's however much they think u need it to attend pretty much.

i still havent received my package yet. anyone else in the same shoes?

I still haven't gotten mine. Since I visited today I dropped by the financial aid office, and they said they hadn't completed putting together my financial aid package yet (?!) They said they had a preliminary offer, so they printed that out for me. I'd say call the office if you haven't gotten anything in the mail yet.

Should I be worried if I haven't gotten my aid package yet...?

I'll probably call within a few days if it doesn't come. I thought waiting for an acceptance decision was cause for worry, but this is just as bad.

Cornell mailed my package to my home address where I don't receive mail.

They emailed me a PDF file of my financial aid letter, so I know my financial aid awards.

I was surprised to get my financial aid email. I suggest everyone check their emails.

nothing in my email...

I called them up today, and they said that mine was mailed yesterday. I havent received an email though. Oh well, I guess i will just wait for snail mail

I had to wait for my dad (non-custodial) to fax his tax return....so we're just waiting and waiting for an aid package before I can make any decisions.

they sent me a snail mail saying that they are missing my mom's tax returns, but when i called they told me they had everything. weird... i think i may have to call again just to check...

I just faxed a letter with additional circumstances surrounding my financial aid situation....hopefully that will help with my aid package...

I really want to go to cornell...
Don't get me wrong, the gators rock, (Back to Back baby) but I worked so hard in school to not go out of florida.

Ya I know wat u mean, I would NEVER go to my state school (well...maybe if I lived in Cali, North Carolina, or Michigan ;) )

^ Wisconsin has good state schools too. aka UW-Madison, my second choice.

I just got my Aid Package -- I got 25k in scholarships/grants with an EFC of 17k

crazy88 That sounds like an awesome package. Can you give me a little hope before I meet with fa people this week? What college are you attending? Do you have anything in your background that makes you extra appealing? How much in loans/workstudy? Thanks!

I am going to Engineering. Umm, I am not sure if i am any more appealing than any of the other candidates, but I did receive a couple of scholarships from Cornell and a likely letter. Its 4k in work study and loans, mostly work study.

anyone here with an EFC of 1,000 or below?

crazy88: If you received some scholarships from Cornell as opposed to grants that you do something extra going on. Congratulations! Our EFC is just over yours with 12,000 in self-help category. Not so good.
