Financial Aid Packages

When should we expect them in the mail?

Anytime. I got mine today and I live in Ohio. It was sent on march 31st

I got my big envelope today, I just haven’t gotten the financial aid letter.
hmmm…

So how was the financial offer - was it good compared to other colleges?

My son got his big packet today and a separate letter with FA offer. Very generous.

I got mine today, very happy with it. =D It’s slightly more generous than Dartmouth’s. For some odd reason, Swarthmore and Amherst have a much lower student contribution amount, like close to 0 or a few hundred for me, but both Cornell and Dartmouth have $2000-$3000 for me. Anybody have the same thing and know why? I know colleges vary, but I would think Ivies would be better than liberal arts in terms of FA.

i got $44,000, which is weird because my mom definitely makes under $75,000 a year. ill be giving them a call on monday

I received the financial aid papers. Compared to the whole cost of attendance, my parents and I only pay less than one-third of the aggregate.

I received my aid package and big packet in the mail today. I live in New York. I’m thrilled with the aid I’m getting. Between aid and being a NY resident going to CALS it only costs about $6000/year to go to Cornell. The best part is that none of the aid is loans. So far it’s the least expensive place for me to go to. =)

That’s what I’m waiting for, the aid package. I live in NYC, so i thought i would be receiving it early on.

Well I live in Putnam County, so you’ll probably be getting it on Monday. You’re just a little farther south, if that makes a difference.

^ It’s pretty random, since Cornell is still reviewing finaid. I called yesterday and they said mine was still under review, but I recieved the big packet today and expect to see the financial aid offer early next week.

PS: From LI.

Cornell expects all students to contribute towards their education. So even if they give you basically 100% FA, you will still have a student contribution portion. You are expected to make that via a summer job and/or work study.

Perhaps your mother has assets over the threshold and that is why there is a parental contribution and student contribution portion in your financial aid.

also keep in mind all. This initial aid award is likely based on tax returns submitted from 2008. If the tax returns for 2009 are pretty similar, the final aid award will be about the same. However, if there was a big difference between 2008 income and 2009 in either direction, then the final aid award will be adjusted to reflect this.

This is true even if you used 2009 income numbers for your FAFSA.

The only way this wouldn’t be true is if you sent in your 2009 tax returns very early. by early, I mean like the first couple weeks of January.

I am waiting for my aid package. I hope that it is genorous. Vanderbilts has been the best so far. Northwestern, Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins were not that good. I sure hope Cornell’s is closer to Vanderbilts. Because I really want to go to Cornell. Does anyone know how Cornell’s aid package compares??

Anyone else still waiting for their financial aid package? Nothing in the mail today for me…
I’m from Oregon and I have already received my admissions package.
Is there a way to check it online?

My daughter is waiting. I called the FA office this afternoon and was told it was mailed out.

Despite getting into a state contract college (Human Ecology) I’m not too thrilled with the package. I would still have to pay 12,000/yr. I think i’d rather go for the full ride at Rochester. I was hoping this would work out, but when I called the financial aid office they said to wait and see what they could do. =/

Unless your family income is significantly (at least 20,000) less than 100,000, that package should be just about right.

^ my parents make ~ 70,000/yr. I think I qualify for more aid.

maybe you sent in your forms too late or something?
