With the HOPE scholarship it pays for tuition so I looked at GSU for the average financial aid packet is 11k so with that much help it should help with my college. Since it's 7k for room and board for a year. And my mom only works and makes 8k a year.

The HOPE scholarship will be a part of your financial aid package. Don’t get caught up in “Average” financial aid package - that is just a number.

What you need to do is file the FAFSA, asap. From there you will find out if you qualify for a Pell grant. If you do qualify then you will get just over $5000 which you can use for room and board. As a freshman you will also qualify for $5500 in Stafford loans which can be used for room and board as well.

Awesome, so I won’t have to pay out of pocket for anything, also I already filed out my FAFSA, but I haven’t got accepted to GSU so I didn’t put it down as the cost for a college I want to go to or how much my family will pay even though they can’t pay for anything. I picked the 10 colleges though. Will I have to pay off those loans?

Is your EFC zero? You should go back and add GSU as a school. Then they will have your fafsa and be able to give you a financial aid package after you get accepted.
Some funds are limited at some schools - like the SEOG, so don’t delay.

How do you determine your EFC? And I thought we got free money, I don’t want to take loans.

what is the hope scholarship? if we apply for fafsa are we automatically considered?

The Hope scholarship is a low income scholarship for students from Georgia going to college in Georgia.

Moekun - your EFC is determined by FAFSA. You should already have it if you have completed FAFSA. If you get loans then you do have to pay them off.

Okay, I’ll find out but do you know any other ways to help pay for colleges. Like scholarships? Okay I found out my EFC is 0.
