About Financial Aid

What do you think your financial aid package (grant/work study/loan/federal aid) would be? Beside the tuition paid by HOPE scholar, I still have to pay 10k for dorm/meal plan/books/allowance which is pretty much. Is it true that UGA is famous for its stingy budget?

UGA is not really considered to be an expensive institution. Mostly all colleges/universities room and board plus other things such as books come out around $10,000 a year. Just apply for scholarships to cover your room and board fees. Also, you can work for UGA, and they will pay for it.

Crisoliva: 10,000 is about right. It's not as easy as Patel says to "just apply for scholarships to cover it." Where are those scholarships? Yes, some are available...but everyone doesn't qualify. Hope will cover everything except room, board, and books. Room and board is about $7K...books can be 500-800 per semester. Son got a job in cafeteria to earn spending money. I think I'll end up paying about 8000 for the year. Some parents give more money...the cafeteria is always open, so it's kind of dumb to go out too much!!

Good luck!

@patel: work study will cover some part, maybe around 2000, but not all of it. Getting a scholarship is not as esay as you say because of my abysmal SAT score.
@mom3boys: did your first son get any aid from Federal Aid or grant or not at all? Do you know how many hours does he have to work a week? Is he qualified for any student loan even though you can afford it. I'm worrying because my family has low-income, very low:(. I will have to do any job I can to pay for it, but I hope that it won't interfere with my studying.
