This may sound like a stupid question but how should one answer this question- "how many people in household" on financial aid forms? I have 2 children, the younger will be filing for financial aid. The older child graduated from college last spring (2007), has a good paying job but is living home. We did not claim on our income tax as a dependent in 2007. This child will probably live at home for at least a year because has plans to get married and wants to save money.

Do some colleges expect that this child will contribute to cost of younger child's education (believe me this is not going to happen)! Should we just not list as a household member??

Thanks I just checked the FAFSA instructions and based on the info on the fafsa I do not believe I need to list as household member since we will not be providing half support. I'm assuming that this will hold true for the CSS Profile also. We will not be filing until next year (2008-2009).

yep, infinity2008 in your case I believe that you are right.
If your college grad was living at home, not paying rent and not employed (or even underemployed) then my understanding is that you could claim him. Even if you can't claim them as a dependent for income tax purposes.
