I am currently a Freshman at UR. I have a question regarding my financial aid package. I am currently receiving rochester national grants, a need-based grant. How many semester am I eligible for that rochester national grants? and, I didn't receive any merit-based scholarships in my package as a freshman. Does I still have a chance to get merit scholarships if i do well in my freshmen year?

No, merit scholarships are only offered to incoming freshmen. (So if you currently don’t have one, you will not be getting one as a sophomore.)

There is a “Continuing Student Scholarship”–up to 5 are awarded each year. It’s competitive and you must apply. Maximum value is $2000. Need is a factor as well as academics. The scholarship is for one year only.

http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/res/pdf/ContinuingScholarship0910.pdf

There are two or three other scholarships available to upperclassmen–none are primarily academic. Each has very specific requirements (including community service, a certain ethnicnity, or membership in a sorority/fraternity). None of then are valued at more than $2000 and none of them are renewable.

What about Rochester National Grant? Am i eligible for it for the rest of 3 year?

I would think any need-based aid would be re-evaluated each year based on your families’ finances

From what I’ve heard UR generally doesn’t play “bait and switch” with your FA.

FA generally stays at the same level provided there is no change in your family’s financial situation. So if you have grants in your FA pkg this year and there is no major change in your family’s finances, you’ll likely have the same level of grants in your FA pkg next year.

The grants may or may not have the same name, but UR won’t replace your grants with a Parent Plus loan.
