Paying for UR

I was wondering what the average financial need-based aid package for a middle class family would amount to.

Also, how common are the merit-based scholarships that the university has to offer? Do you really have to be at the top of your class to even be considered? I'm not a NY resident so I don't think I'd qualify for the Meliora grant. I also only made Nat'l Merit Commended, so I wouldn't qualify for the Nat'l Merit scholarship either =/ I posted my stats here earlier: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=191018

I'm thinking that someone with these stats could get in, but wouldn't be considered stellar enough to receive the scholarships, especially with the college admission process becoming more competitive every year.

I'll be visiting sometime this summer, but I'd love to have input in advance. If it's not too personal, could you share what type of aid you got and what your family situation was? Thanks!

financial aid depends on how much FAFSA says you "deserve"

UR has a lot of merit based scholarships. My history with Merit scholarships has been quite good. I recieved the Kodak Scholarship which gives me 6,000 dollars a year. But my parents also wrote a letter to the University detailing more of my merits and I got another 2,000 dollar scholarship (per year).

Although I probobly could have gotten more but I already have a 50% tuition discount because my mom works for the university.
