Financial aid questions for current students?

whoaaa my first post, how exciting. i just discovered this site and it seems to be pretty much amazing. but anyway.

my question… i am in love with brown, and have been planning on applying ED… problem is that my family is poor, to be blunt, but its kind of a sticky situation where its doubtful that “demonstrated need” will match up with actual need. we’ve talked to the financial aid office and all and they say theyre reasonable, theyll take personal situations into consideration, and if you really cant work something out they wont force you to go there, etc. etc. my qusetion is… is this actually true, for those of you who have gone through the process? theres so much stuff out there to suggest that colleges are brutal about changing financial aid packages for people accepted ED, but im hoping brown will be nice. any advice?

they'll work closely with you to come up with a reasonable financial aid arrangement. if you truly feel you can't afford it, they won't bind you to ED. that being said, financial aid is pretty generous
