Anybody know when the2018-19 fall refunds are disbursed? I know all schools are different but shouldn’t most schools be close to the same date. My school starts August 27th but from what I’m hearing we won’t get our refunds til October like uh?! 2 months after school starts? Anybody know there refund dates yet?
Every school does it differently. For example, my current school does it ten days before the semester starts and my CC did it the Friday after school started. Check their website, most schools have dates listed.
Sorry, but all different. In my sample size of 2, one school took forever. The didn’t even process it for 2-3 weeks after school started, and then it had to go to a processor in Pennsylvania and then they had to process it and mail it to the home address. It really did take 4-5 weeks.
The other school refunded anything in the account every Wednesday and put it my direct deposit into my account the next day. If FA was processed 10 days before the first day of the semester, the refund could happen 10 days before school started.
If you need the money early, go ask what you can do to make that happen faster. Can you set up direct deposit for refunds? Can they give you the exact dates? It may very well have to do with the drop/add days as they don’t want you to end up owing them.
After the financial aid is applied to your account. Usually a day or two before classes start.
So It Is more than likely you will receive your FA before school starts, even If It 2-3 days before?
It really depends on the school. One of mine gets hers before school starts, the other one had to wait 4-5 weeks for hers.
Why don’t you call your school’s FA office? They can give you an exact answer.
Wow. That’s egregious abuse. They have the money. So they are holding on to all the FA overages for a few weeks to gain interest? It should be direct-deposited into your bank right after the aid is applied to your account.
My school takes 4-5 weeks after classes start also. It has to be AT LEAST 1 week after classes start because they’ll only release aid after the add/drop period ends. If it takes longer than 3-4 I usually poke people until it gets disbursed.
Many schools don’t disburse until a week or so after classes start. That’s to make sure that all direct costs are covered first.
My Financial Aid office NEVER answers their phone so I can never get In contact with anyone to get any answers. I recently got my BankMobile Account set up and now just waiting on my card. School starts August 27th and I still do not know when I will receive my Financial Aid, I know It depends on the school because all schools are different. Can ANY one kind of give me some closure to around what time your Financial Aid should be disbursed to you?
Does anyone know when they will be getting their refund? I know all schools are different, I’m just trying to see If anyone has a date yet or already received theirs?
Try to email them. Also check the financial aid website.
@brantly , it was ridiculous and got longer as the years went on. (First year she didn’t get a refund and I actually had to pay some).
The school doesn’t have all the money before school starts as BF paid by the credit and didn’t pay until after the drop/add date. But the school bill was due about a week before classes started. Then they had to wait for the drop/add. Then they had to wait until Wednesday, because of course Wednesday was the day they did the refunds. In her junior a change happened and the checks could no longer be cut from the school but had to go through a third party. To get a direct deposit, the student had to go on a computer program and enter all the bank info. Well, daughter tried twice and it wouldn’t go through. They had so many issues with it that they actually set up a computer in the FA office just for this purpose. By then daughter was a senior and just waited the 4-5 weeks for the check. The direct deposit would have cut a week or two off (as long as it was a Wednesday).
She liked the school, they gave her a really good financial aid package, she graduated and has a job. Boy, am I happy not to have to deal with them again! This school was a real pain.
Each school really does have its own way of doing things. My school disburses federal aid ten days before classes, and then they issue refunds a few days after that, so many students receive their refunds before the first day of classes. I have heard of some schools waiting until well after the first week of the semester, however.
