Question regarding Financial Aid refund check

I started an online 8 week course on 11/5/12. The class is completed and I am a week into my second session. I still have not received my financial aid refund check. I have been asking the FA advisor about an update on my account and she always says that it is processing. I let a few weeks go by and decided to call her. She found it strange that I have not received anything yet and directed the situation to her mananger. Later that day she emailed and said that there was something wrong with all of the enrollees around that date and the manager is contacting the third party auditor. It's been a few days and I still have not heard any new news....It's sounds odd to me that they were not keeping up with this... does anyone know about financial aid refund checks? and how long the school is supposed to hold the funds? or even if they received the funds?

Please help...any information will be helpful

My daughter’s school website has information about when they release the funds (for them, 2 weeks after they receive them). We have to fill out a form to request them and include either a direct deposit form or information about where to send the check.

I would keep hounding them.

As you were told, there is an issue. It is good that you followed up, because otherwise the issue would not have come to the school’s attention (yet). Schools DO “keep up,” but not always in the timely manner a student wants or needs. That is because there are so many different things at play in providing student financial aid - and a large school uses a computer system, not a person. I have worked at a huge school, and I now work at a very small school. I catch mistakes quickly, since I am the one doing all the reconciliation manually. Even then, it could take a month before I know that there is an issue … and then I have to find that issue and figure out how to correct it. This explanation doesn’t help you, of course. It’s just to give you an understanding that the school is not necessarily going to be able to get things straightened out right away. “A few days” is a lot to you, but it is not much time for your school to fix a big problem. Give it a week or two, then check in with them.
