financial aid & scholarships

This is mainly directed at those who have been through or are going through the process but if anyone knows anything, that would be great. :)
Basically, I would like to know if there are any scholarships availableto UK students wanting to study in the US. I'm really interested in history, particularly American history and American politics, which is what I would probably want to study. Are there any sort of scholarships along these lines open to internats? I'm aiming for the top unis and would like a smallish one (not tiny but not huge) so where would be the best places for me to look at???
thank you :)

ps. i've looked at fulbright already & all I can find are postgraduate scholarships.... am I looking in the wrong place?? :)

Yes. Most scholarships in the US are awarded directly by the universities. Many of the top 20 national universities and top 50 liberal arts colleges have need-based financial aid for international students.
Some of the lower-ranked universities award merit-based scholarships. Your best bet is to take a list of universities that offer your major ([College Search - Find colleges and universities by major, location, type, more.](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)) and then check the website of each and every one of them for scholarship opportunities.
