It would be interesting to see if applying for financial aid does impact admissions. It seems like a lot of us are asking for financial assistance (me included). I would like to start a thread that shows if we're applying for financial aid, and then see the results after March 10th. No need to get too specific ($$ amount), just wondering if we could post whether we are applying or not, gender, grade, national or internationa, oh and maybe if you are an URM or maybe an over-represented minority, such as Asian. Also, maybe your feeling whether Financial Aid will hurt your chances for admission. I know some schools are need blind, like Exeter, but what about the other ones?

So here goes,
I'm a girl, applying for 10th grade. I am applying for financial aid, and I am a US citizen, white middle class from CA. The schools I'm applying to are not "need blind". I am hoping that because I am only applying for 3 years, they will take that into consideration! Or, is that being too optimistic? I really don't think I have anything the school wants, anything that they should be willing to pay for, (meaning I'm not a recruited athlete, I am not the best student,) but I do think that I have a lot of enthusiasm, determination, and am well rounded. Plus, I am happy and w/out sounding conceited, fun to be around. So, I'm hoping that somebody will say we need this girl to be a part of our school!

female applicant of 3 all-girl schools
9th Grade
boarder
U.S. citizen-latino heritage
FA Applicant
not the best athlete, or student either in terms of grades (I have a's and b's)
but as with you, I think my personality, focus, determination and all overshines the rest.

I'm applying next year, but same status with emmers43 except I'm Asian.
:)

Hey, I haven't posted in awhile. I read this old thread again and wondered if the Financial aid worked out for everybody. I was offered FA at 3 schools, FA waitlisted at Taft. The aid ranged from 60 - 90%. What about everybody else?

This would be an excellent source of info for the applicants next year -- lets format it so that we can compare apples to apples. I am going to format it like they do for the college chance listings.

Just copy and paste the list below and fill out your info

Grade applied for:

Amount of aid needed (just a little, about half, significant, very significant): As much as they give me but about half to 75%
Number of schools applied to & Number accepted at with FA: I got accepted into all of them but FA wise: LFA 15%, Episcopal 40%, NMH waitlisted and didn't bother getting in the waitlist.
% of need met by schools: LFA and NMH weren't really to be considered because my bros going to college. Episcopal was good enough I guess so I went to epis. or im going there
FYI: international students have to really try hard because most schools don't give out FA to int. sutdents. The interviewer from NMH said that is why I wasn't likely to get any from NMH.
