Financial Aid

Does anyone know when FSU sends out information on financial aid?

the summer 2009 financial aid notifications are available on “secure apps”

login and click on financial aid toolkit. the fall notifactions are not available yet.

obviosly, you need tosubmit the fafsa form in order to be considered for any finan cial aid.

good luck!

Is it necessary to complete FSU’s finaid application even if you know you’re not going to get any aid? Is it required for student loans?

I know FSU does not make you fill in the FAFSA in order to receive just Bright Futures and University Scholarships.

It is necessary for most student loan programs.

Rudysmom–I missed the acceptance post! CONGRATS!!! It will show up on secure apps. He needs to sign in to set up his permanent FSU email/blackboard account and then click on secure apps then financial aid and be watching for info to post. I think that secure apps is available even with the temporary login he has been using.

Will he start summer or fall? He must have had a GREAT audition. Hip Hip Hurray!!! Is it his first choice?

I guess I need to find the thread for those who were originally deferred to post an acceptance.

We found out online day before yesterday. And yes, FSU IS his first choice and he is on cloud nine! They had originally told him he’d have to wait until after all other music auditions were finished, so it’s been a very long wait - especially since he got his app in the very first day back in Aug. '08! HA! He feels blessed to have been selected. There are hundreds of musicians, vocalists, music theatre applicants. The COM is huge.

He will start in the summer term.

Whew, it’s been a long ride!!

Wow! Congratulations to your musical son!

Summer is a GREAT time to start. It was an advantage to my D. Fall was a little tough on her, even with a summer start. She had one intense course this fall that challanged her in many ways, given all the fall distractions. She learned what happens when you fall behind, and how there is help if you ask, but not if you don’t ask. Spring is now going very well. And two courses from summer have given her a little slack in scheduling and keeping to her MAP.

Congratulations!! That is really something!

thank you. We were beginning to lose hope over that long 6 month wait!

not me. i always kept the faith that your s would gain admission. FSU is fortunate to have a student who wants so badly to go and has worked so hard.

Now on to the fun and exciting stuff. like orientation, dorm selection etc.

Have fun! Welcome to the tribe! Go Noles

ACC tournament starts today, FSU plays friday and has a good shot of making the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 1990"s. Leonard Hamilton (coach of the bb team) was named ACC coach of the year this year. That’s awesome.

There is a regional NCAA tournament site in Miami. Wonder what the chances are that FSU could make it to play there !?!?!?!

… because I have nothing in my secure apps. Does that mean I’m not getting anything?

I just got UM financial aid today and was shocked at the amount they are offering.

Can I use this as a guide in any way as to what I might qualify for from FSU, even as far as loans go?

i did fafsa and got the university scholarship and full bright futures, and i see nothing there either.

There is merit aid based on grades and scores, and financial aid based on need. FSU is a state school with very low tuition. There is limited dollars for merit aid and financial aid. Call admissions and ask who to call and talk to about awards–both merit awards and true financial aid (grants, loans). Just because it is not listed on Secure Apps does NOT mean that you have not been awarded scholarships or financial aid. Just call.

Bright Future awards will not show up yet. You have to go on FACTS.org and do the data entry, and then once they get your scores and final transcripts etc it will show. Bright Futures does not cover any summer tuition, and will show up during the summer for fall.

UM is privately funded, and they have more dollars to award for merit aid. Bottom line is how much is left to pay after the awards are subtracted from the totals. And keep in mind, you have to know how hard or easy it is to keep the awards for the next 3 years, as your courses may get harder. Watch carefully the GPA needed to keep your UM institutional awards.

With top grades and high financial need, UM could offer you a bottom line that is less out of pocket than FSU. Look at all the expenses carefully, though. And call FSU to get your numbers for scholarship and financial aid awards. DON"T PANIC.

Thanks.

I called, they said Financial Aid awards won’t be posted til March 26.
I wish they would just put that on the website. :-)

OK, I’ve logged onto the blackboard and checked the secure apps and financial link. So far, we’ve seen scholarship info for the summer C session but nothing else, nada, for the fall term. This has been the status since 3/12. Do you think this is it as far as additional offers? I hate to call since officially the information will not be posted until 3/18 (or 3/26?).

Any thoughts?

Financial aid info may not be posted until 3/26 per a posting above, so I think you may need to wait…

I called this afternoon and asked when students would find out about financial aid and the representative told me that:

for Fall it should come out 3/26 (as everyone esle has posted)

for Summer it should be out on 3/23.

And also, if you have Outstanding Documents and you already sent them, it will still mark as if you never sent them until this coming week.

I’m so nervous. I got accepted for fall and already said yes, even before I found out how much they’re giving me. My number one school, so no regrets!

Anyone by any chance know of a reasonable student loan that allows you to pay after you graduate? This is just in case Financial Aid isn’t very fond of me. lol
