I was wondering if anyone had any tips for my situation... When I was younger, I started college and I was immature about it, not caring about grades or attendance or any of that sort, so after my first semester, I dropped out.. Not realizing what an impact that it would cause me in the long run(as I said.. immature and stupid, not that that is an excuse at all, I'm just sayin') so.. now I owe some on what I received in financial aid, and I was wondering if there was any way to get a loan or something to pay that back so I can continue with my education, now that I have my head on straight and willing to learn. I have no support in doing any of this, and I am in it alone... I just need some advice/guidance on how to go about doing anything of this nature.. I really would like to attend school, but with the mistakes of my past hanging in the balance.... there's no chance for me to do just that.

I'm not sure if anyone knows of anything or knows how to go about fixing this, but I would greatly appreciate any advice you have to give.

My state(if it has anything to do with it) is Kentucky... again, thanks for reading this and thanks for any advice you guys may have.

So are you saying you have an education loan which has come due, because you are no longer in school, but you aren’t able to pay it back & want to return to school before you do so?

Have you contacted who is holding your loan to arrange payments?

No no, it wasn’t a loan… I had grants that paid for everything, I didn’t have to have a loan because I was attending community college. I’m 20 years old, I first went to college when I was 16… I don’t have a time period in which I have to pay for this, I just have to pay it to continue my education, because I failed to reach their requirements to hold the grant, because I was stupid. But, mostly what I’m trying to get across, is that I want to go back to school, but I have no support in doing so, and if anyone had tips on grants/loan companies/etc. for money issues I would be super grateful.

Well then, you need to contact the individual or organization in charge of that grant, and ask whether re-payment can be waived at this point, or if your re-payment can be delayed until after you finish your education.

But truly, the easiest way out of this would be simply to concentrate on paying back the money. College can wait another year or two while you get rid of this financial responsibility.

Sounds like a Return of Title IV funds was done when you left school early (you can only keep the portion of aid you earned based on your number of days in class). I have helped students with this issue in the past … you can contact educational lenders to see if any will loan to pay off past balances. Some do. However, I strongly urge you to work & pay off the balance before you return to school if it’s a large amount. If it’s not a large amount, sometimes students are able to repay the private education loan with Stafford loans they borrow once they return to school. I don’t recommend it, but it can work.
