Financial Aid Transfer Help!!

So here is the deal,
I am transferring from one community college to another which is out of state next semester. I just received word that I am taking 2 (out of 4) courses that I do not need for my degree at my transferring school. The SAP guidelines (at my current school) stipulates that I need to complete 66% of my courses with at least a 2.0. My question is… If I drop the 2 course, will I still receive aid at my next school? Granted, I would have not fulfilled the SAP guidelines at my current school.

Please help,
Thanks

Every school has its own SAP requirements. You would need to contact the next school to find out theirs.

Don’t drop those classes for a couple of reasons:

  1. you’ll have FA issues, and you will probably end up owing money for those dropped classes (aid being reduced for THIS semester since you will no longer be full time.) You won’t ONLY have a SAP issue at the next school, but your aid for this semester will get cut. How would you pay that aid back?

  2. An OOS community college will likely be EXPENSIVE, and you will not likely get anywhere close to enough aid for that school…so you likely will not be transferring to that school.

What is your EFC? What aid did you get THIS semester? That is likely the SAME amount that you’d get for an OOS school that will cost MORE money because of OOS fees.

How will the OOS CC get its costs paid? What is that OOS CC? How much does it cost for an OOS student?

WHY are you considering transferring to an OOS CC??? Why aren’t you staying where you are?

If you end up not being able to afford to go OOS, then that means that your instate school will likely require those 2 classes.

Thanks guys for your feedback.

I have since spoken with my financial aid advisor at my next school. He said that I should be fine. However, he did specify that I will not be finishing at least 67% of my 91 completed credits (my early semesters were quite rough). So he advised me to not submit my transcripts and test into the appropriate courses so I can still receive aid. A question I forgot to ask him was, what happens when I do submit my transcripts when I am ready to go to a 4 year school? Will they notice this and put me on a permanent aid suspension? Will it average itself out by that time? Anyone know how to tackle this? PLEASE HELP!

You should be fine with what???

Which OOS CC is this? What is the COA of this OOS public.

I think the FA officer is talking about one thing, but you have two concerns.

  1. academic progress and FA

  2. The OOC CC will have a much higher cost. MUCH higher than the aid you will receive.

What was your aid for THIS semester at your current school?
