I checked online and they have finally received all of my financial aid documents. So about how many weeks will it be before I get an official fin aid package?

pilebay, We got our financial aid letter very quick from Rice. I got our tax info in very early, so I think that helped. I think the financial aid letter depends on when Rice gets your tax info, then how quickly they process the letter and finally the mail time from Houston.

Our financial aid letter came several days ago. Hold your breath, though -- in the need category, they really do go by FAFSA. In our case that predicts that we should pay a sum that would wipe out a very large chunk of our retirement savings (yes, I'm a parent). Don't believe the web pages and brochures about not ending up with large debt.

Thanks for the responses. I was also wondering how to find the Expected Family Contribution? Is it somewhere on the FAFSA site after you have finished filling the whole thing out?? My mom filled out my FAFSA and she doesn't remember what the EFC was.

When you print out your summary report, it is on the top righthand corner.

Thanks. I just found it. My EFC was 4,000. So what exactly does this mean in relation to Rice and my financial aid?

Cost of attendance - (COA) = EFC (family contribution) + merit Scholarships + school grants + student loans (subsidized and/or un-subsidized) + student work study + student summer employment + un-met need.

Most schools will have a different maximums/minimums for each bucket.
