Fafsa?

Anyone else did their FAFSA yet and sent it to Rice? I am getting very scared because I have no completed mine yet since I have been waiting for the '08 tax returns to come and did not know I was supposed to estimate with the '07 or just use the W2 forms...

I heard that the longer you take, the less money there is for you. Is this a problem for an ED acceptee like me? They gave me a rough estimate of how much they will give me to attend (which is a major reason why I am dead set on Rice) but since I have been taking so long (though they do say it is due March 1st so I am not past the deadline), should I worry that I might not get the money promised to me because all the other people who did FAFSA have already taken it all up

You don't have to wait for the 2008 tax returns. Do the fafsa NOW, and update it when the tax returns are ready. That's what I did last year, and what I did this year.

Nope - you can relax. Rice will meet all your determined need as long as you have your fafsa in by the deadline. The deadline is just so that they can get it processed in time to give you a definite amount by the time non-ED students get their acceptances. Returning students don't even find out their amounts until the summer. You really can relax and be confident that, as long as you turn your forms in by the deadline, you'll get your aid. Now if it was some other colleges - nope, that wouldn't be a for sure thing. This is my 6th year with a kid at Rice, so I know what I'm talking about. ;)

Thanks a lot anxiousmom, but I have not attended Rice yet. I was only accepted this year.

So I can wait until next week when my father will obtain his tax returns and do it then?

Ooops. It's my 5th year with a kid at Rice, not my 6th. I had one year of overlap when DD was senior and DS was freshman. And yes, you can wait. I checked the website, and it says March 1st. This will be my 6th year filling out the FAFSA and the PROFILE for Rice. I always wait until I have done my taxes because it seems to me a big bother to have to file an estimated and then file a correction. One time is enough. Just make sure you also fill out the PROFILE and send your tax forms and w-2's in using IDOC. :)

Thanks and I will get to that as soon as I receive my tax forms
