If I live in an apartment rather than the dorms next year, do I get some type of financial aid to pay for the apartment? My EFC is zero and I will be a second year this upcoming fall.

Yes, submit your FAFSA noting that you will love off campus, not with parents. There will still be a financial aid COA and if you are getting aid for a dorm, you should still get aid for an apartment or house. They will refund the money to you each semester, but you need to be prepared to pay your deposit and potentially first month’s rent before the aid comes through. But, if you can do that you’re smart as off campus housing is usually a much better deal than the dorms.

the thing is that i still don’t get an apartment. what if i have to end up living in the dorms again. will the amount of aid i get change because i put “off campus” but decide to live in the dorms?

Just put you are living on campus for now since the myFindaid page has the option for you to change your living status. If you have 0 EFC, they will subtract like 3-4k off your financial aid.
