Financial Aid

Hi! So I'm very familiar with W&Ls merit based scholarships but not so much with any need based. W&L is tied with another school for the absolute dream and I've always known the only way I could go is if I got a scholarship. I've wanted to go here since middle school and my parents have always made that very clear. According to FAGSA we should qualify for a little bit of aid but not enough to actually make it realistic because our EFC is a lot higher than what my parents said we can actually afford. I was just wondering if any one was familiar with grants or other need based help? Will the school only help with demonstrated need or would they add a little more on to that? Any information about need based aid or grants would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to figure out if W&L is a realistic dream at all after not being a Johnson finalist. Thanks!

Think Pink - your question is basically, “Will W&L provide need based assistance that is significantly higher than my family’s demonstrated need.” and the answer is no.

Financial aid is designed to cover the gap between cost and a family’s ability to pay (i.e. the “demonstrated need”) and is offered on a need based system.

Funds provided over-and-above the demonstrated need are scholarships and are awarded on a competitive basis.

You are trying to combine the two under financial-aid, which I do not think will work at W&L or at any other school. Realistically, the gap that you are trying to cover is going to have to be met with either scholarships or loans.

Best of luck.
