Financial Aid

Hey guys,

So I got accepted to UCSB, however, my college counsellors told me not to apply for financial aid when I was first applying. Now that I am accepted, do you know if it is still possible to apply for finaid? or is it too late…

Thanks!

Did you submit the 2006-7 FAFSA ?

I did a few days ago; after I found out I was admitted.

Okay -- I'm a little confused. You are posting in the UCSD forum but we're talking about UCSB, right?

In general, you got some very bad advice from your college counselor(s). The UC priority deadline to file the 2006-07 FAFSA was March 2. What this seems to mean is that you won't be considered for any scholarships or Cal Grants (there was a separate form to complete for Cal Grants and the deadline was also March 2). I think you should call the Financial Aid office and talk with them about your options. They will have better advice for you than anyone on this board.

On the UC SANTA BARBARA web site I found this information:

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) priority filing deadline for 2006-2007 financial aid was March 2, 2006. Applications filed after the priority filing deadline will be considered for the Pell Grant, Direct Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), and the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) only.

The FAFSA application is available to file electronically at <a href="http://www.fafsa.ed.gov%5B/url%5D">www.fafsa.ed.gov</a> and the paper FAFSA is available at all high schools, colleges, and universities across the U.S. Information on this process is also available on the UCSB Financial Aid Office web site at <a href="http://www.finaid.ucsb.edu%5B/url%5D">www.finaid.ucsb.edu</a>. Be sure to list UCSB (school code number # 001320) on your application.

Sorry sorry my fault, early morning syndrom, I meant UCSD. I did fill out a Cal Grant form, because it was required for some of the private schools I applied to in California. Sorry about the mix up.

Well, no matter the campus the priority filing deadline for FAFSA was March 2. It's good that you got your CAL Grant GPA verification in but they need the FAFSA to process as well. Did you complete the CSS for the private schools?

You should call the UCSD Financial Aid office and talk with someone about your options. I'm sure your not the only one in this situation and they are used to helping students with all sorts of problems.
