Hey guys,
I was accepted at JHU and I intend to enroll. However, the Egyptian Pound fell from 7.83 to 8.88 EGP per dollar, making it a hardship for my family to pay for me to go to JHU. If I send the FA office an email with this and ask for more aid, can I be granted more aid or not? Also, what is the medical insurance process? JHU did not mention medical insurance at all in the bill.
You can try to ask for more aid, but don’t expect it.
Currencies go up and down all the time, and it’s something international students need to keep in mind. (After all, when the Egyptian Pound gains value, you don’t get a tuition discount, either.)
As for insurance, JH’s website says you are required to purchase the university’s. Here’s the link:

Hmmm, it actually sucks ass that the Egyptian Pound has been losing so much value! My parents are actually from Egypt, so they’ve been talking to me about this whole currency issue for a while. Although I’m not dwelling in Egypt currently (I was born and raised in America), I would say that asking for more financial aid from the office would not hurt and can only result in beneficial outcomes. If you are ever physically visiting the University later, definitely try to meet up with a financial aid adviser and explain your situation. Also try to call them! If you are lucky and associate with the right person, they may actually give you some more money and be very understanding! Nevertheless, it will not be easy, but I don’t see any harm whatsoever in trying!
Good luck to you, your education, and your family! ~ Stay strong.
