Financial aid?

I was wondering what people recieved for financial aid, from what I understand BU had a very high endowment but i got virtually no money from BU and i got over 30k from American University?? so confused.

BU is not need blind, they don't go by the FAFSA recommendations meaning they can give you whatever they want...I got $3500...in loans...useless.

my financial aid package covers my tuition 100% which shocks me considering i didn't turn in all of my stuff until like march 2nd last year & bu called me like 7 times before i sent in all of my stuff BUT i'm not complaining since my package will be pretty much the same all four years

$13900 in grant money, about $22000 total in grants+loans+work study.

edit: My EFC was $27,000, by the way.

i got 20,000 in grants and 7,000 in loans and work. so together 27,000ish.

26500 in grants and another 7000 in loans/workstudy.

xoenjoli, how do you know your package will stay the same? I also got 100% package, I was shocked but I am scared If I go to BU that I will get screwed next year and get no money

unless your parents hit the lottery or get a really good promotion or something, it stays the same.

it's unusual to get say 47,000 one year and 30,000 the next unless your parents financial standing changes drastically.

if you ask someone from admissions, they'd pretty much tell you the same thing - i questioned them a lot.

see ...
"You must apply for need-based financial aid every year. If you meet all eligibility criteria and your financial circumstances are comparable, you can expect at least the same amount of aid for the next academic year. Grant, loan, and work-study will usually increase to assist you in paying any increase in educational expenses."

ThinkExpensive, I'm with you.... nothing but the $3500 loan, which kind of surprised me, because I got my financial aid package from a state u ( I am an out of state applicant) and they offered me some money, not a ton, but at least a little and also work study. BU didn't even offer work study!

Hi, we had no calculated financial need. My son received $21,965 a year in merit money, and as long as he keeps a 3.2 GPA it's renewable all four years. Like xoenjoli, BU also called us a few times for clarification on our PROFILE and FAFSA which we thought was unusual. I've posted the breakdown on another thread but for the record:
a) Legacy Scholarship: $1000 offered to alumni's kids.
b) University Scholarship: Half-tuition scholarship.
c) Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan of $3500 a year.

BU does not a have huge endowment. They actually provide more financial aid than one would expect - and they note that. For example, though BU is private, they have over 40 free rides for kids from the Boston Public Schools.

how are you guys finding out your financial aid packages? I can't seem to find mine and it's virtually impossible that I didn't get any need-based aid

once you log into your bu account there are choices on the right side. below is a copied and pasted version of mine. There is a tab for merit aid....open it and see inside. Good luck

wow thats not good at all. ive been receiving about 25k financial aid from other schools (as i severely need it), but i dont have the financial aid options on my page, im hoping something will show up

It's possible that they have not finalized a financial aid offer yet (many of my colleges do that after the decision is made and my materials are received) However, I would contact the financial air department (or check your online status if possible) to make sure that they got all the required forms
