Has anyone had success appealing your financial aid offer? OOS son thinks UVA is his #1 but has gotten better offers from Emory, Middlebury, William & Mary and Georgia Tech. We’ve written a letter and waiting on their response.
Are you instate for VA? UVA meets full need (as they calculate it) for instate admitted students.
Are you saying your net costs are less at those other colleges…or that the aid provided is more. There is a difference.
A little of both! But mainly the other schools are offering more.
We are OOS.
I think you need to look at net costs…not what amount of aid any school is offering you. My opinion.
UVA does meet full need for all students as long as you meet the March 1 deadline for filing FAFSA and CSS…did you make that? https://www.virginia.edu/life/affordinguva
Did your run their NPC prior to applying? If what they offered is a higher COA than the NPC that could be something to discuss.
Beyond that it’s hard to make recommendations without the net COA of each school, and the breakdown of need based aid vs merit aid for each, as appropriate. Admissions handles the merit aid piece, Financial aid the need based piece. Because time is short I suggest picking up the phone and calling.
Yes, I did this with both of my sons. It wasn’t a huge difference, but enough that it mattered (to us). This year I called the school my son ED to. Whoever answered the phone basically said no it wasn’t possible. I asked to speak to his financial aid counselor, had to make an appointment. He said yes it was possible, but I needed to send an email. I asked him what needed to be in the email and he was very clear about.
