financial aid

when, where, and how do current students get their financial aid info?

The quickest way is to check jtf.cornell.edu

The other way is to email the financial aid office about it.

The last way, which is the crummiest, is to wait for the letter to come.

Calling them does nothing… they’ll just tell you they haven’t posted it on JTF or sent the letter to your house.

If the letter hasn’t come by now, I think something might be wrong. I know Brown man 1987 suggested to not call them, but you won’t lose anything but giving it a shot. Also, to log into the jtf, you’ll need your student ID and pin. Link is here: <a href=“Cornell University Web Login”>Cornell University Web Login;

I dont think something is wrong if you haven’t received ur finaid yet…

I called them about 30 minutes ago, and they claimed that MOST of the financial aid decisions have NOT been made. As a matter of fact, they probably won’t be made till after the tuition deadline (aug 7th.) If this happens, they will just waive the interest fee u have to pay on your tuition.

So…hakuna matata…or try

WHAT! after the tuition deadline? That’s ridiculous. Man they really want to minimize the number of appeals they get this year, by awarding packages as late as possible.

But what if a student cannot afford the school even after their fin aid decision? This seems ridiculous b/c then a transfer will probably be unable to withdraw and go back to their original institution if finance becomes a big burden. Just my view of the situation.

this is total BS, they need to have decisions prior to the tuition deadline.

I’m already ridiculously ticked about how late it’s coming – I e-mailed them over the weekend but they haven’t responded yet. Honestly, I really don’t know if I’m even going to be able to afford the tuition, and to hear that I might not even know how much I owe until later, when loans will be even harder to get… meh.

I asked finaid about the post-tutition deadline packages and they said that you should assume last year’s package and if there are shortages or surpluses its easy to take care of and any fees will be refunded.

This is ridiculous. It’s too bad they couldn’t switch to the new system smoothly and on time. Thank you for the information, I will probably call their office or send and email and get that in writing.

I gave them a call, but they were quite rude and told me that the deadline will NOT be extended. Why couldn’t they finish them on-time? They had about 5 months!

I thought most of students received theirs during/around the time of RD decisions. Applicants to other universities have said the same thing to. If you look at http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/firstyear/Freshman_Admission_Requirements_Grid.pdf</a> , it says financial aid notification to accepted applicants is by early April, which sounds right.

they are continuing students, dude, not first year students.

Please read the threads before posting something which is wrong or extraneous.

I think I’ve recognized a couple people from both the financial aid and bursar office who tend to be rude on the phone. I may be imagining things but every time I call I find myself crossing my fingers.

Haha yeahh! Then I just kept looking at the wrong FA on jtf.cornell.edu when they are not still done with it. I was quite afraid because it was a way less than what was stated on FA letter I received just after I knew I was admitted. Yay!

I just e-mailed the finaid department, and got an e-mail in return, figured I’d post it:

"According to our records, we show that your financial aid file is complete of all required documents, and we are just waiting for the financial aid counselor to complete their review of your application materials. Once the review has been finalized, we will promptly mail your notification letter to your home address listed, as well as make the information available for you to view online.

With regard to the bill, we would recommend that if your parents made a payment last Fall semester towards your bill, that they make relatively the same payment towards your bill at this time. Then, as our information is made available, if any further payment is needed, they would be able to make that at that time."

So paying the bill is “recommended”, but not required? And what happens to the entire appeal procedure, do you know if we will be able to appeal afterwards (that sound very improbable)?

yeah, this is really bs that they’re just saying “well, just assume that you’ll get what you got last year.”

problem is that my financial situation DRASTICALLY changed from last year to this year (divorce + deadbeat dad = major money issues). i really have no idea what to expect in terms of aid, and waiting is the thing that’s making me nervous - it’d really be nice to know something before the freaking tuition is due.

I agree this is completely ridiculous. I had originally heard that they were sending letters out starting July 1st, and I still have not heard a thing from them.
