so my EFC is around 25-30k. on the CSS Profile, i accidentally put down 15k. and on agora it says that bc scholarship, fed stafford loan, and fed work study combined would give me $11,900 total for the fall and spring semester. i am definitely screwed on money. would this be because bc is being stingy or because i screwed up the CSS Profile

To toastmaster: You can certainly appeal, but it is unlikely to do any good. BC has always been stingy with FA, and this year they are somewhat justified. I think BC is suffering the same as many other schools due to the economic downturn. The reasons for you to appeal are typically things like leaving out some huge piece of financial data that would make you appear poorer, or some big change like one of your parents lost their job in the time since you did your FAFSA/CSS. But if the numbers you gave them are correct, and your FAFSA and CSS data is all correct, then what you got is probably all you're going to get.

To threalmrpeters: If your EFC is 30K, and you got 12K, it is likely that you are one of the many BC applicants who BC expects that you "gap" the rest with parent loans or assset liquidation. If your parents have any amount of home equity, BC is one of the schools (there are quite a few) that expects parents to take home equity loans to pay for college. That has been mentioned in other threads on here many times. Basically what it comes down to is that BC is saying "our investments are down and we don't want to liquidate them on your behalf, so we suggest you and liquidate some of your own instead".

If your EFC is $30,000, BC gives you $12,000 grant, this is very typical case. Normally BC expects you to take 5~6K student loans, 2K work study, 2K summer job. that would cover your total cost.

BC claims to meet 100% of the student's need, I think it does. BC's need-based aid is not as generous as the ivies or other TOP lac schools, but definitely is not worse than other top 30~40 national universities.

I really love BC but my EFC of 29k is very discouraging. To attend I would have to take out near 25k a year in student loans, that would suck!

Well my 30k EFC got me a 6k BC grant. around 3k in fed stafford loan and 2k for work study. my total is close to 12k. i did not receive 12k for the BC scholarship alone if thats what you meant golacs

therealmrpeters, BC is a great school, I sincerely hope you can work it out with BC

my efc is 0 and they covered 40K, so I'm short 15K......I guess I should appeal huh

^^ You can. but don't expect it to do much good. BC left me with a good-sized gap between EFC and actual. The response when I spoke to a finaid person was essentially "Your parents can take home equity loans".

i got 40K!!!!!!Hahahahahahhaahahahahah yeaaaahahahahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Execpt my EFC is 0

^Uh...a little on the obnoxious side, but congrats, tsh1226.

Anyways, I basically got the same reply as umboFever. Sigh. This is a real issue for me--unless BC budges, which I doubt they will, I don't think I'll be going--the gap between my EFC and what they're giving me is too big and certainly not worth my parents taking out home equity loans for.

I was deferred and I know what my FAFSA EFC is, but how much different would it be once they take the CSS PROFILE etc. into consideration? My EFC was a little less than $3000, but it seems as though there's a noticeable gap between that number and how much BC actually gives you...
