Financial Aid

My daughter was accepted EA. We still haven’t received a financial aid award because of missing papers. I was told in late March. Has anyone received an award and if so was it good enough to accept or not?

I just received mine. It wasn’t amazing, but from the looks of it the offer I got was much better than the offers given to other people around here. Basically they expect my family and I to come up with $30,000 a year, which isn’t going to happen.

Now I understand why so many students are optioning for in state public universities. It’s a bit stiff considering that’s approximately what students will make a year after graduating. I’m praying for us to get good aid because my daughter really likes this school. Considering how hard students had to work just to get accepted and then not a good offer, really saddens me. Good luck to all. We’ll just keep praying.

helicoptermom24: Did you get your EFC from the FAFSA yet? Or the EFC from the CSS form? BC pretty much holds to those numbers, since they don’t offer merit aid. So you can already get an idea essentially what your D will get.

Well yes I did, the EFC said 0. But according to all the posts I’ve read off the board, the schools don’t hold true to that #.
My husband had several investments of businesses, which never got a head start. And the financial office asked me to mail out income taxes and letters with explanation of the business outcomes. I’m stressing mainly over several posts which are saying that the financial aid is $30,000 + per year! Something we just can’t afford. I have sent them all the info we have and are just waiting for an answer. Thanks for asking.

Is there any relationship between the FAFSA federal methology EFC, the FAFSA institutional methodology EFC, and what Boston College offers for financial aid? In other words, can someone make any general assumptions/predictions regarding the amount of financial aid they will be offered by BC based on either of those figures?

How long does it take for your financial aid materials to show up on Agora? Did fafsa and mailed stuff over a month ago, but nothing is listed on agora.

I think you should call and speak with someone in the financial aid department. I was told by the office of financial aid that it takes about one week for them to scan and post any financial aid documents that they receive.

I’ve been sending all papers certified, so I can track through the internet.

Good Luck!

Wait until you hear back from the financial aid folks, but if it’s not enough, don’t be afraid to call up and press those folks as to why your package is inadequate (if that’s the case). Aid is negotiable, you just have to press them hard enough.

I want to stress that Financial Aid is all done on their institutional formula, not the FAFSA. You will not get as much aid as the FAFSA says you will get, unless you are incredibly lucky.

Appeal your package if you really like the school. They increased mine, with a grant, by about $8000.

Does anyone know when the March financial aid awards come out? I submitted everything by 2/27, and the FAFSA was received on 3/5. When my mom called them, they said that they would be able to notify me of my financial aid with the rest of the March financial aid decisions.

I still haven’t gotten a financial aid package and March is coming to an end. Has this happened to anyone else that applied EA? It feels like if they’re taking forever.

Does anyone knows if they should have all the FA packages completed by March?
