My financial aid for the semester, excluding work study, is $11,107.50 however, so is it unreasonable to say that the $898 is the refund? Or has not all of the money been dispersed to CARS yet?

Pretty confused, thanks for responding

I don’t believe that is the refund, because at least for non-finaid it is the remaining obligation coming in future months. It would be confusing to have both credit balances and debt balances show up the same way. It appears that not all of the aid has been applied yet. Keep watching the statement as you will probably see that 898 drop down soon.

so i just paid my bill out of pocket (i figure, i’ll just wait for the refund to reimburse my parents), but my quick statement still says that i owe money. does it take awhile for it to show that i’ve paid or what?

Curious, for this first initial payment of, around 9k-11k (depends on who you are), it is the ONLY one of this year, correct? We aren’t doing this a second round once Spring semester comes around, are we?

If that is so, why are they splitting the financial aid EVENLY between the two semesters? I used up all of my financial aid for this semester to pay 9.6k, and I think I’ll have to be paying my dorm’s monthly rent out of my own pockets, until the Spring semester’s aid comes in…

In case you haven’t been doing this already, don’t go to CARS to see if you’ve been paid, but your Offer Letter. CARS shows nothing for me has been paid, but my offer letter shows more than enough has been for me to be registered.

yea that is true ^
I just looked at my bearfacts and nothing shows up as being sent to the CARS account but when I looked on my offer letter, enough has been paid. Only thing not paid is the academic competitive grant and my loans of course.

I’ve got the same question as Mike B. What does it mean if the top 2 are at $0? Has my financial aid paid out enough for the first bill?

Question about refunds: I accepted about $1000 more than what it takes to cover my semester’s CARS bill. I really need this money to pay my parents back for my books, and just living expenses in general until I can get into a work study job (it’ll probably be almost two months before I can just make enough money in general to spend on living expenses). Is there a way I get my entire financial aid award to pay soon (maybe not tomorrow, but before August is over) so I can get the refund?

Also—I saw someone wrote that they were reevaluating Cal Grants in this thread and it seems like a lot of people already had their Cal Grants processed. I got a Cal Grant B and my financial situation has not gotten better so I don’t think they’ll take it away. And B is the one not based on academic performance, right? But anyway, my offer letter shows it still hasn’t been accepted yet. Anything to be worried about?

My Cal grant B hasn’t been accepted yet either. I asked my counselor and she said that they are being processed, evaluated and whatnot.

gdavge2003: The billing system works on a semesterly basis. That is, the money you are being charged and the financial aid that is being dispersed is applied to the Fall 2009 Semester set of charges ONLY.

There will indeed be a second round of charges and payments, much like this one but with small ($1-5) changes, come due in January.

arduouspallor: EFT can take a couple days from when they process the refund. I had this problem as well – the financial aid money was supposed to pay for textbooks and rent! In the past, it has taken until the first day of class or the end of the first week to receive the money. One notable semester, it was 2 weeks after that because they had made some changes to my loans (in my favor, but – 2 weeks!)

In short, you probably will get the money by the end of August. Probably. Call them and ask about their timelines if there are any hard-and-fast deadlines you have to meet.

i am completely confused about how the financial aid works. i’m trying to call in but i keep getting put on hold. can someone please help me out?

so my CARS quick statement says the following:
Minimum Amount Due Now: $4,530.50
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $4,630.50
Account Balance: $9,252.50

what does that mean? i already paid $6508.50 because that was my minimum payment due on the CARS e-bill. I wanted to avoid the late fee, but will i get my money back later on? and it seems like the cal grants are going to be processed later in late August or September as many of you are saying. i WILL get my money refunded when they are finally processed right?

long message i know, but please help out! thanks a bunch

it says that $19287.00 has been paid out on my offer letter. but where did that money go?! it doesn’t say on my e-bill… so i’m assuming it’s referring to my CARS quick statement. so does that mean i only have to pay the minimum amount due on my CARS quick statement ?

yes, you’ll get money back if all of your fees are paid and there is an excess of aid

you do not need to pay your ebill if your financial aid covers all of the fees. The ebill statement does not reflect aid that has been paid out for you. If the CARS account amount due is $0 then its all good

My CARS Quick Statement says

Minimum Amount Due Now: $0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $0.00
Account Balance: $0.00

But my E-Bill says 6K for Statement Amount.

Financial Aid is supposed to cover all of my fees. Does the 6k mean how much I have to pay myself out of own pockets, AFTER financial aid is applied to it? Or should no action be done by me, and I just leave the financial aid to automatically do everything for me?

ohh… thanks aeboi! so what i should have done was pay only the minimum amount due on my cars quick statement right? so next time, even if my e-bill says a different amount, i only have to pay my quick statement? i wont be fined right?

also, what is the account balance referring to?

coron: someone earlier said that the e-bill is updated once a month, so follow your quick statement, which changes according to payment.

undecided–Thanks for the info!

So as long as the Minimum Amount Due Now is $0.00, I can disregard the E-Bill and I won’t have to do anything? And thanks for the reply!

My CARS bill shows I owe around $5,000. I can’t afford that. What do I do? Will the financial aid eventually cover part of it? Or do I defer the payments?

So I owe the school about 3.7k and I’m wondering when my federal loans should pay off. My federal loans are enough to pay off the first installment; I’ve accepted both the direct and perkins loan and signed the notes. Because the deadline is coming up tomorrow, I serious need these loans to pay because I can’t afford to pay off the fee with my own money. I’ve also tried emailing and calling the financial aid office, but am having difficulties also. Help?
