So I got accepted into rochester through early decision (yay!). But im worried about the tuition going to cost about 50000 in total... Did anyone receive their financial aid who got in through early decision? And if you did how much did you get?

I did not get into Rochester through early decision, but I get a really good package from them, the second best actually by a very small margin. They do help you out if you need it. I don’t know about ED and fin aid though. To be honest with you, I would have advised you to do regular decision if you needed financial aid.

With that said, you can always go back and beg for more money. Two of my friends have told me successful stories of how their aid improved after they went back. So it does not hurt to try. But they do help in financial aid!

Hi… First of all, congrats on your acceptance. If you are to recieve merit-based aid you should be notified through e-mail in the next day or two. However, official packages from the financial aid office will not be available until the spring, as the financial aid office requires the most up-to-date tax return information to determine need. Be sure that you submit the CSS Profile and the FAFSA to be considered for need-based aid.

Also, the office of admissions offers an appeals process, as referenced by Zobasity above. Though the appeals process is no gaurantee, it is possible to recieve more aid. Let me know if you need more information.

Does applying for financial aid hurt one’s chances of being accepted?

University of Rochester does not have a need-biased admission process. so no.

No, admissions is “need-blind”

my son needed to submit the CSS Profile to another school by 11/15/09. UR requires the CSS also I believe. Do we need to re-do the whole thing with current info or can we send them the 11-09 version? I have already submitted the FAFSA with current info.

You can send them the 11/09 version, but you will have to update it once your taxes are completed and you have final figures.

I thought you only did the CSS profile once–with estimated figures, if end-of-year tax info is not available at the time of filing.

It’s the FAFSA that you update after filing taxes.

I was told to update the CSS as well. And it was a pain, since you can’t do it on-line. You have to do it by hand, crossing out & adding entries!

I don’t think so. My D applied regular decision and was accepted; didn’t get much financial aid but did get some merit aid.
