So from what I've read here on this forum, the hierarchy in Investment Banking goes something like this:

Financial Analyst ---> Associate ---> Managing Partner........

But what typically is the hierarchy in Corporate Finance for one who begins as a Financial Analyst??

Financial Analyst ---> ??

That isn’t the hierarchy for investment banking.

Analyst -> Associate -> VP ->SVP/Director(depending on bank) ->MD/MDL (depending on bank)–>MD or SMD

For corporations, it depends on where you work. If you work at a big bank, it is similar to investment banking. If you work at a smaller firms, it is completely different.

You need both the pay and the title. You can be a SVP all you want, but if you are getting 50k a year, you are only getting paid an analyst salary.

Whats the competition like for an analyst position? I’d assume the positions are filled mainly through on campus recruiting.

IB analyst is more competitive than corporate. Typically these positions are filled by students who have completed an internship their junior year.

It is very difficult to get an IB analyst position once you leave school. The only way I’ve seen it done before, is to have someone bring you in or go for your MBA.
