Financial / Merit Aid awards

Crazydad and I are planning to attend Rhodes Preview Weekend (for accepted students) with DD..... is anyone else going?? DD had an overnight visit a couple of months ago and loved it, even though she didn't know anyone! She sat in on a class, visited with a professor, toured campus, and we had a great time. We found Rhodes to be quite welcoming! We're 90% certain she'll attend.... got great great merit scholarship! She has other nice merit scholarships from other schools, too (thankfully!)... after weighing the pros and cons of all of them, she is back to RHODES! Right where she started (loved it from her first visit three years ago!)... We're just so relieved that the Preview Weekend is on a Saturday! Our school's stingy attendance policy is making things hard lately. Used all excused absences on campus visits and a couple of sick days! So it is a relief to know that we'll have a relaxing (somewhat) Saturday, seeing the campus without being rushed to get back! Can't wait!

It'll be gorgeous. Wish I was going , too.

Could anyone comment about range of scores/accomplishments necessary for merit aid/favorable packaging at Rhodes? My daughter has 700CR, 780M, 760W with strong GPA and rank, busy EC's but nothing unusual, no big awards. She's interested in physics and math but doesn't have set career ideas yet. We live in the northeast and she attends a no-name high school.

2 years ago, D with top 5% rank, 2250 SAT, good ECs (but no big awards) was awarded $15,000 per year.

Thank you fireflyscout.

Is merit aid given on top of need based aid?

Nope.

But like most things in college FA there is an asterisk, and this * is possibly in her favor. Check out the Jack Taylor. Really cool , it is in addition to FA, and a 780 Math kid who wants Physics is looking like a possible contender. Although Rhodes is getting progressively more selective, I still feel comfortable saying she will get a nice award.

Remember, Rhodes has scholarships that are primarily academic achievement based and others that have other or additional criteria, community service being a biggie.
