Hi,
I am an out of state student who just got admitted to UVA and it is certainly expensive. Does anyone know whether they will give any academic scholarships because the financial aid got me no grants, just loans.
Thank you

Did you apply anywhere else?
No scholarships through the school. There are a few scholarships available to “Jefferson scholars” through an outside entity but I think the people in the running for those have already been notified (although someone please correct me if I am wrong).
Many full pay out of state UVa applicants end up going to other colleges that offer large amounts of merit aid. There are many colleges that offer an average of 50 percent discounts on their tuition to many applicants (although food and housing are typically still full price). Some of those colleges may still be accepting applications.
The U. is planning on starting some limited merit aid, but I don’t think that program will be available until a future entering class.
The easiest merit scholarships to obtain are often local ones, including ones offered through your high school and local non-profit groups. However, those scholarships often are in limited amounts, and won’t make much of a dent in a 65K plus cost of attendance.
For people with higher incomes, large equity in a home and/or very good credit, there are often lower cost private loans available than are offered through the federal Parent Plus loans.
Yes, the application period for Jefferson Scholarships has passed.
Speaking of the Jefferson- does anyone know if the at-large Jeffersons have been selected and notified yet? Admissions said they don’t handle that when I emailed, but on the website it says Admissions does indeed select at-large students to send to the Jefferson Foundation, so it is confusing. I think they have probably heard already, but I wonder if anyone on here knows for sure about the At-Large ones.
I assume Admissions meant that they do not make decisions on who is offered the Jefferson Foundation Scholarships.
