Financial Safety Help

Circumstances have changed, so I need 1-2 financial safeties (MERIT based aid) to apply to this fall.
I appreciate any input.

I have some financial maybies (Tulane, UMiami, etc) that MIGHT give me enough $$, but just in case they don’t, I’d like to have a back-up plan.

What I need is as close to FULL-TUITION covered as possible. I’m a TX resident, and even the 10k in-state tuition at Texas schools is pushing it.

not nmf/nmsf
35 ACT, 790 Math 2
4.6 wgpa, 3.98 uw
rank (as of spring junior year) 31 / 748, top 4% … rank might go up because I raised my gpa from 4.49

If ec’s do anything-
I’m interning at a vet clinic this year, and possibly a physical therapy clinic as well
hospital/rescue group/library volunteer
lacrosse past 3 years
book blog past 3 years

I’ve considered Alabama, Miami OH, ASU… Anything else come to mind?
Thanks so much everyone

Temple perhaps. Is Alabama affordable for you?

So are you saying that your family will pay the approx $15k for room, board, books, fees, etc, but that’s essentially the limit?

What iis your major and career goal?

There are some automatic full RIDE scholarships listed in the link in reply #1, if you need even cheaper.

intended major is neuroscience, or biology if they don’t have neuro
career goal is something in healthcare… possibly PA, PT, medicine- I’m not sure yet.
finances:
yes, basically $15k a year or as little as possible.
I asked my mom yesterday how we would pay for my college, since they’re already struggling with my brother’s cost, and she told me she didn’t know, and that I might have to take loans out. Finances are hard to predict since my family owns a small business (which is currently not doing so great) and my dad doesn’t think we would qualify for much financial aid.

I would add UT Dallas. From the info on the website, you should receive a significant scholarship.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State

Your parents are PAYING for your brother’s costs?

When you go, are they going to SPLIT what they’re now paying? for instance, if they’re paying $20k for your brother are they going to give you $10 and give your brother $10 and then expect you to borrow a few thousand?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The updated list is- Alabama, asu, utdallas, ole miss, Mississippi state, temple, and Miami OH.

Can anyone suggest which have the better biology/neuroscience programs?

m2ck- it’s somewhat unclear right now. Brothers fees are ~$14k, mainly room/board. One option is he commutes next year, as it’s relatively close by. Other option is that they pay his cost in full, help me as much as possible, and I take out loans for the rest. It just depends on how the situation turns out.

If there is no minimum contribution that they are willing to promise you, then you should choose an automatic full ride school, or one with a very low residual cost that you can cover with federal direct loan + some work earnings, as your super-safety.

From the link in reply #1, you qualify for scholarships of this magnitude at:

Troy
Tuskegee
Alabama State
Arkansas - Monticello
Arkansas - Little Rock
Howard
North Carolina Central
Prairie View A&M

If you have National Merit status, you can also look at http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/ .

Full ride also at Louisiana Tech.

You might also look at Alabama-Birmingham. It houses the med school for Alabama and so is strong in biological sciences. It also has a direct med school entry program that you would be competitive for.
