Hello, I am new here so I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right area. Feel free to move it where it’ll get more traffic.
Looking for some financially viable options for a hard-working 25-year-old employee of mine who just earned an associates. He has been frustrated lately after his transfer application cycle didn’t go as planned. After applying to many in-state universities, all weren’t financially viable. He is currently working for me again as he takes a gap year to apply to out of state options that may give more aid.
His parents are not in a position to help financially. My wife and I (not his parents) are wondering if there are schools out there that might be able to meet his financial need with little to minimal debt after graduation. He doesn’t have much saved up, but my wife and I may be willing to chip in a few thousand a year from our nest egg to send him off. He grew up in an abusive household and struggled all his life before I took him under my wing to work for me. I consider him a son and just want the best for him.
He has a 3.5 GPA from two different colleges, one year of credits at a university a few years ago and one year of credits from a community college. Straight A student at the community college. His interest lies in chemistry/biochemistry and is considering pharmacy school. Hasn’t taken any standardized test scores but would be willing if required for the schools he’s transferring to. He is older than the average college student, so we’re hoping your school suggestions are open to admitting older students. Home state is AK.
We’d greatly appreciate any school suggestions to look into for this young man. Right now, we are helping him build a “long list” of financially viable schools and will be narrowing down the school list as we get an idea of whether or not he’s a fit.
