Finding a roommate from out of state

I'll be attending MSU in the fall of '13, and am wondering what the best possible way to find a potential roommate would be? I have seen the MSU roomsync app but was wondering if there are any other ways? Thanks in advance.

Here are some things my friends did:
Go onto this page (Facebook) (if the link doesn’t work, just search "Accepted: Michigan State University Class of 2017) and post looking for a roommate. Right now it says that there are only 63 likes, but as more people get accepted and when it gets closer to May 1 (the last day that they will guarantee that you get the roommate you requested), more people will post looking for roommates.

At AOP (this requires a little bit of angst though. PS, AOP is the orientation held over the summer for incoming freshman), if you find someone that you really click with, you can request to live with them (even though it’s after May 1.)

Here’s what I did: I went in blind, but I ended up in Akers (in East Neighborhood with quad rooms). Another girl really wanted to live in Akers, so we switched out and I ended up with the best roommate in the world. Also, the roomsync app works pretty well! I had a late acceptance last spring (I got accepted about two weeks before May 1st) and tried using it to find roommates (got in contact with two girls, but I decided not to live with them).

Good luck! Going in blind isn’t that bad though. Also, the housing people are really good about helping you work things out if you don’t like your roommate/dorm.
