Finding extra time to study for tests (SAT I & IIs, AP Exams, Etc.)

Since the SAT I & IIs, AP Exams (SAT I most importantly) are also an important part of getting into colleges, how do you guys set aside time to study and prepare for each of these tests? What do you guys do if your in a situation where the SAT is as important as your GPA? An example would be that you scored 1800-1900s on your SATs and had a 4.10-4.20 GPA.

Do you guys reduce the effort in doing homework and other school work so that you will just be able to get an A (i.e. low-mid 90% rather than a strong 95%+). I've been reducing the effort lately and I've found that my teachers have noticed and I think it has a negative impact overall.--Does anyone have experience with this? Should you start strong in the year and end strong? lol. I have the AP exams coming up and I don't know how much effort I need to sacrfice in school classes so that I will feel good about both results. I'm really behind in my AP subjects and I know that I need to set aside more time for it but how much?

It really depends on how much time you are spending on school and homework each day and how much is left over. If you normally spend like 5 hours a week with friends, try studying for the next few weeks instead an cutting it down to 1 or 2 hours.

My boyfriend, who I spend a lot of time with, happens to be in my AP Physics class, so we are studying together. I have many friends in my other AP classes who I can study with. As for ACT and SAT, I'm on my own, but I can find the time. It's all a juggling act.

My best advice, however, would be not to let your actual classwork fall by too much. Although ACT/SAT/AP tests are very important, so are the classes that you take and how much effort your teachers think you showed. Try to end the year well. Remember, if you are a junior, these teachers are the last ones who really get to know you before you apply to college. Think of the recommendations.

Just try to set aside as much time as you can. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I cut down on sleep time...but thats not really all that healthy.

Just make the best use of the time you have and dont get distracted by facebook, msn, etc.

Sacrifice some effort, Taiwanese; I have been up at ridiculous hours this week completing assignments and trying to study, and it is not worth it.

i am squeezing in two hours every day to study for the three ap tests i am taking this year. i did a lot of work during spring break so that helps too. i need my sleep, so if i am too busy with school to study for the ap tests two hours then i just dont, and try to make it up on the weekend or something. try your best to watch less tv and go on the computer less, just until may.

and as for reducing effort in school work, after i get my quarter grades i might, if i have straight As. we dont have percent grades, just letter grades, so there is really no difference if i drop a few percentage points.

I'm not sure if they still have it, but in 2003 I purchased a computer program from The Learning Company that included both SAT and ACT prep. Usually I would use these on a weeknight if I had some extra time after short assignments or if I didn't have any assignments. I'd say I did practice about twice a week and when one of the standardized tests was coming I'd try to maximize class time and study halls so I could do more standardized test preparation (about four times each week).

I didn't take any AP courses but the best way to do them seemed to be during study hall. My friends who took AP's would review for about 40 minutes or so on a daily basis in study hall and then do some work at home if needed similar to how I managed my SAT/ACT studying.

Man you guys study a lot...I haven't started to study that much for AP tests. I'm just super good at cramming :P.

hey taiwan. listen to me. i am from taiwan as well. haha

organize and plan is the key.

at the beginning of the semester i started reviewing all subjects that i have ap tests for, in addition to reading ahead. this helps a lot! now i am in a situation where i basically have a few weeks where i feel like i have secured all the info, and can just do practice problems.

try to get 6+ hours of sleep. especially from 11-2. it is ur growing time.
lol

cool im taiwanese too.

i just stay up later, and sleep in the afternoon for a bit, so im not tired anytime
