Hey guys,
My application for 2012 is almost complete; the only thing missing is my English teachers recommendation. He agreed to write it, but he is pretty old and doesnt use e-mail. Is there any way that I could get a paper copy of the recommendation form? Also is the deadline for everything Jan 31 or is it March 1?
Thanks.

I would contact admissions or your BGO and ask.

Also, I believe the deadline is March 1.

Contact CGO -- there's not much your BGO can do to help you with this. Also, get it in soon. USNA operates on a rolling admissions process and won't consider your application until it's complete.

you might want to suggest that he write it out and have a secretary or someone in the guidance department enter it on-line for him!

That's a good idea. And you need to light a bit of a fire under the dude. As 1985 noted, it's rolling admissions and spots are going as I type. Put simply, the longer it goes, the more notable and exemplary must be your app. as there are simply fewer and fewer spots available.

the way i understand it is that the academy can't choose to appoint someone from an MOC's slate unless all candidates on the slate have their apps finished (before the deadline, of course). so if you have the noms it doesn't matter that it's rolling, right? they have to wait for you to finish before they pick a candidate from that slate.

unless you have an LOA...then you get it as soon as the app is finished!

mom3,
wow.........I never even considered the idea that some candidates might receive a LOA without a completed app....is that even possible or is that simply your way of "stretching" our imaginations ?

^^^

I got my LOA before completing my file.

Many people received LOA's based on the initial info sent in to the academy. My son did not get his until his file was complete for USNA; however, his USMA came prior to file completion. When my son first considered applying, I told him I would be "encouraging" him to get this all done quickly, as it was a rolling admissions process. His stats are good, but not the top...I didn't know how he'd fare against the strong apps of the procrastinators. So, his apps were all complete for both SA's he applied to within a few weeks of receiving the material. The USMA appointment has been on the mantle since the day after Thanksgiving and the USNA one (according to DODMERB) is on the way. My son is a strong candidate, but I've read here about MANY who appear as strong or stronger....mine just had some "gentle prodding" which may have expedited the process.

Really? I always thought the candidate had to have his/her APPLICATION submitted, but not his file completed (BGO interview, med, CFA, nom, any waiver(s) needed). I'm thinking that we need to be careful of terminology here, perhaps? Where's '85 and '69 when they're needed for expert clarification? Yooo hooo!

On the LOA that they send out, under the section where it states the materials needed to complete for a guaranteed appointment, it has a section where USNA can mark any parts of the application that have yet to be completed. So I would assume that they wouldn't have that section down there for nothing.
