Just got text from D.....fire in tunnels on campus; five dorms got booted at 8a.m. and God Quad & North Quad are nearly inaccessible....

It is extinquished–supposedly located in a utility tunnel.

The alert system made it seem like a huge deal, but for the most part everything went on business as usual. All dorms are now open again.

Haha, everything went on as usual for people on South Quad anyway. I had several North Quad friends take refuge in my dorm this morning. And some classes were canceled when the smoke alarms went off (in Nieuwland- right AFTER my class, of course…) But everything is fine now, except for some phone lines/cable being out. The fire was in a tunnel near LaFortune.

personally, i think ND was very proactive, which is better than not alerting the students.

sending 4 emails each within 10-15 minutes of each other was not necessary. but it was fun to be sitting in calc and see 80 people check their phones at the same time 4 times.

okay, now there are 2 more fires. Someone left food in the microwave too long in Duncan so that entire dorm has been evacuated, and something on the golf course is legit burning.

Lol, dorm fires like that aren’t that uncommon. Since I’ve been here, Walsh has been evacuated twice for fires: this year because of someone cooking Easy Mac and sophomore year because someone was reading by candlelight (I know, ***?). It’s amazing my dorm, with its 5 minute burn time is still standing. As far as I know though, the only dorm to ever really catch fire is Steds.
