Fire Update

What is the latest at USC? How bad is the air? Any changes to the routine? Two days ago I called security campu police and they said there were no problems. I know the dorms must be bad since they are not airconditioned if the air gets bad.

there are no problems. its really muggy outside, but there is no smoke in the air. students haven't received any emergency alerts or warnings so everything is okay.

The air is gross, but not much different from any other fire season. dry eyes, and it constantly smells like you're walking through a cigarette cloud, although i'm sorta sensative to that stuff.

kkgirl- you know those clouds outside. Those aren't clouds, they are smoke. We haven't gotten any warnings, but the air quality here is horrible. I know that I'm allergic to it, so I've been coughing all week. It is definitely quite smoky out here, although there isn't too much ash, luckily.

Here in the OC, we are covered in ashes. The wind is supposed to shift to an onshore wind this afternoon (Thursday) and that will bring back all the smoke that blew out over the ocean. I think we'll have smoke in Southern California for a few more days. Sorry Nikara- hope you can cope- stay inside.

Other places have it a lot worse. It's manageable here. No ash coating cars or anything, just air smelling like forest fires.

It certainly is worse elsewhere. I have a friend in Irvine, and I'm sure it's awful there. Here it is manageable, it's just those with allergies and asthma who have problems. I'm glad that things are starting to get under control.

It was a bit smokey today, worse than the beginning of the week, but still ok - I would just try to avoid staying outside too long for the next day or two for it to clear out some more.

I know some people took some benadryl which helped, and I know one person with asthma who used their rescue inhaler, so it's bad enough to cause flare-ups in some people, unfortunately.
