First chance thread-NEED SAFETIES

I’m an adult and a former college counselor.

I think the top schools are a reach for you because of low scores and no stand out EC. Being from an underrepresented state can really help. Focus onn bringing up scores and writing a good app.

chemwz, no i appreciate your help. Im talking about regular UG application essays, not direct programs.

Redroses: Again, thansk for your feedback. Just out of curiosity and in your opinion, what are stand out EC’s that you have either seen or what are ones that you think are stand out?

For UG schools (ivies I’ll focus on), they will look for really good EC’s, whether they are medical or not medical. But either way, they want some high quality stuff. Not saving the world, but certainly things that they will see as a contribution for their school. I don’t think that you need to be perfect to get in, but you just have to be really solid.

i agree chemwz. In your opinion, what are your solid EC’s?

I don’t really like posting my EC’s online. Lemme PM you.

any other imput?

You seem devoted to debate, that’s great. But then you want to major in the medical field? You seem devoted to the internship with the senator. But, again, what’s this to do with your major?

Your extracurriculars seem a bit odd to me but they are still very strong. Your test scores a bit low for the schools you want to apply to.

A lot of those schools are a bit of a reach BUT you have a good chance of at least getting into one.

sure, I guess I should clarify. Well, I am not “devoted” to my internship in the sense that I love it because I want to enter that career. My interest lies in the medical field, however, as doctor, I plan to pursue teaching, research, health journalism, and health policy. My interest in speech and debate, hopefully establishes this parallel between interest in policy issues and interest in the medical field. I am trying to come off as a holistic doctor, not simply one who is a science/humanistic individual. Does that clarify, or not really?
thanks

bump? Any other feedback would be appreciated

Look. You shouldn’t try to “come off” as a type of doctor. You should do whatever application you love because you love it, not because PLME will eat it up if you just say that you are holistic.

um, again, this is primarily for UG not for PLME, but I think you took my words out of context. I said that I am trying to come off as wanting to be a doctor who is holistic, because that is what I want to do. Im not trying to fake an identity, so Im not sure why your suggesting that? Regardless of how I become a doctor, I plan on pursuing multiple interests within that field. I dont understand where in this thread I have indicated I did something to get into PLME, that would be incredibly dumb to waste several hours a day doing debate (policy, not pfd, llol) to simply “come off” as something. I have done whatever I have done because I love it, otherwise, I would not have won a bid to the TOC in policy debate (if we’re going off of non science activities). Im not saying Im holistic in my application, Im merely saying that there is more to being a doctor than “okay, lets go and help save some lives”

Sorry. I misinterpreted what you were saying. Again, I was just providing discussion questions for you to contemplate. Also, since now one else was answering, I figured I would respond to help your post be bumped up and then people might see it and reply for specifically what you were asking.

oh, haha, yea thanks, I just wanted to make sure I cleared that up, and yes I guess I see a potential problem with my app with regards to that.

You qualified for TOC? Write that. It’s impressive. It’d be more impressive if you broke, but nonetheless it’s good.

Ha, I hate to bump an old thread. But I wanted to updates something fairly significant, my SAT score. Just got it today and its a 2240. 790W, 730M, 720 CR. I am dissapointed it wasnt a 2300+, esp since a lot of ppl isolated my problem as the SAT.

So what do you guys think my chances are with a 2240? I also took the ACT and am expecting a 34/35.

Also, I received a bid to the TOC, didnt break
