First day at community college?

It's my first day at a community college and I'm nervous due to screwing a lot of things up lately. I kept putting things off and wasn't paying attention to things like I should have, so as a result I'm attending an English evening class on Tuesdays and an art class on Saturdays I need to transfer to MICA in two years. My schedule is scattered due to most of the classes being closed, and I hate myself because I kept put things off. Plus, I forgot to get my book as well. I'm not poor, but money is rather tight at the moment, so I couldn't register for as many classes as I wanted to. I'm only taking one core class until next semester, when I plan to take the rest of my core classes. As of now, I'm only going to school once a week until next month, and I already have a friend telling me I suck, so I feel like a pathetic flunky. How can I prepare for my first day, not be nervous and depressed?

You can continue to add on more classes to your schedule until the official drop day.

You have better chances on the 8am+9am MWF classes, 8am TTH, early Sat morning classes other evening classes and get on the wait lists.
Look at what is doable in the courses catalog and go to the classes this week and as long as necessary and talk to the prof to get on the wait lists.
Keep on attending the class until you get added or the roster closes.
Buy your books and keep all the receipts so you can sell it back at the end of the semester if you wish.
You need to take charge and get organized.
You are paying a lot of money to only have 2 classes.
Good luck.

most likely their will be classes at the end of the half of the fall semester, in other words the 2nd 8-week of classes, check em out.

You are over thinking things and your friend is not a friend.

Lots of students, but esp CC students, have “scattered” schedules for many reasons. Their work schedule, late registration woes, lack of class offerings, etc. It is not uncommon for a CC student to take an extra year (3 instead of 2) to get to a place of transfer. A 2 year goal for MICA is great, but that only will happen if you stay on track AND you get a bit of luck and the right classes are open to you. The first part you control, the second part you can’t control. You need to be flexible in case it takes 3 instead of 2 years, because as you already can see, it is not handed to you at a CC.

Get some hobbies or get a part-time job–you clearly have too much time on your hands if you are so distracted by this minor set-back.

Get organized. Buy your books. Make more strategic plans and follow through. There is no magic here, just logical step-by-step progress. Stop making excuses and make things happen around you. Good luck.

Don’t worry too much mercurius. People drop out of many classes during the first week and you can get on waiting lists for classes you’d like to take. If you want to pick up another core class, you can just email the prof to make sure it’s OK to enroll late. I’ve enrolled last minute for all 3 semester at my CC… due to scheduling mistakes, classes being dropped, etc. Remember to stay on to of your work so that you can transfer out smoothly! :)
