Tomorrow will be the first day of my science research internship. I'm just feeling a little edgy and nervous at the same time. I have read over some articles that my mentor sent me that pertain to my project, so I feel like I have very general grasp about it. Hopefully, I'm still a little worried that I might screw up or look like I'm incompetent or something (my specialty -eh).

What should I know for tomorrow or prepare in advance? Is there anything I should bring? How should I dress?

Dress well and just show up. It is expected that you will screw up at least a little. If you have any questions or do not understand just ask along the way. You are there to learn. They do not expect you to do their job.

know that at least the first couple of days will be more so of an introduction/training. your mentor will show you around, talk about his/her research and show you what you’d be doing. he/she has to train you on the equipment and make sure you know what you’ll be doing. you’ll just be starting out, so they won’t expect too much from you and they know that you might make mistakes. but it’s okay, we’re humans- we all make mistakes. as far as dress code and what to bring, bring a notebook and pen/pencil (in case!) and just dress casually. i know you’re probably nervous, but the first few days will fly by. good luck!

Always overdress on the first day. I started the first day of my “internship” (I use this term loosely, because I am already graduated and like to think of it as contract work ).

I love the first day. Everyone is super nice to you, you get to meet a lot of new people, and in my case it was perfectly okay if I was stupid!

Just put your best foot forward. Be friendly to everyone, call everyone by their name (it helps you remember) and do not be afraid to ask questions! Just enjoy it!
