I can't decide if I should apply for the first deadline or for the second, and I was hoping I could get some input. I have a 4.41 unweighted GPA as of the end of junior year. However, I'm taking enough APs senior year that my GPA should improve to at least 4.45 at the end of the first semester (I think I read somewhere that the UNC average is a 4.44). Applying early action wouldn't allow me to include this higher GPA, but is it really that much of a difference for it to matter?
I guess what I'm asking is which will make a bigger impact: showing interest by applying EA with a lower GPA, or applying to the later deadline with a slightly higher GPA? I'm from Massachusetts, and because of our finances I won't be able to tour UNC before applying, so I want to show as much interest as I can.
Thank you so much for any information you can give me!

I don’t think that .03 will matter that much, also I believe you mean weighted as it is impossible to get over 4.0 unweighted.

Yes that’s what I meant…I’m always getting them backwards lol.
And thank you! The first deadline was what I was leaning towards, but I just wasn’t really sure.

definetly apply early. i had similar stats and am out of state and was flip flopping between early and regular deadline. ultimately i sent in my app in the fall minutes before the deadline. it was the best decision i made because i m going to move in to my dorm at unc tomorrow!

I think you should just apply early anyways. I have heard that UNC’s admittance rate is significantly higher for early action students than for regular action students. Also, are you OOS?

Yes I’m OOS - Massachusetts. On the UNC admissions site it says that they don’t give preference to early action over regular decision, but is that not actually the case?

Well, people who already have strong apps like to apply early to have a bit more peace of mind.

Yeah I think the higher acceptance rate is due to stronger students applying early. I’m all for just going ahead and applying early; that’s what I’m going to do.
