So plain and simple: neither of my parents went to college (both got their diploma's, dad went to trade/vocational school), BUT both of my grandfathers on each side have a bachelor's. Can I still consider myself a "First Generation" college-goer? Or does this sort of thing vary by individual school policies? I've snooped around on the internet a bit, and I haven't really gotten any straight answers. I'm mostly interested for financial reasons, as I've read that some schools are more prone to give scholarships to people whose parent's haven't attended college. Thanks in advance for any input!

It depends on the school. When you fill out the application you will be asked how far in education certain members of your family got, where they matriculated, when, etc. If the schools you are applying to don’t care about grand parents it won’t be on the list of people they ask about.
