<p>You don’t explicitly state that you are first generation on your application. There is a section where they ask the highest level of education your parents have received. Each individual college decides what to then do with that information.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t call being “first general” a hook per se. I would say that an admissions rep might be more forgiving when looking at your standardized test scores if you are a first-general student, or they might be that much more impressed with high standardized test scores. </p>
<p>It really depends on the school. You can see what schools consider for admission by Googling “Common Data Set” [school name] then look at section C.</p>
