First Generation

I am a first generation student. My father owns a contracting company and my mother is a homemaker. Both have high school diplomas, but no college classes or degrees.

Is this going to help me at all in college admissions? Is it at all similar to minority status? Or is it more likely to hurt my changes?

I am applying to top LACs and am very interested in how this will affect my acceptance. Thanks!

It really helps if you applying to UCSD

It might help a little (the UCs, for example, are known to take it specifically into account), but unless you grew up truly poor it probably won't be much of a factor.
