FIRST-hand info wanted: Transfer, vs. Freshman?

<p>Is it more worthwhile to go early to a small/unknown or a state school for 2 years, then try to transfer into an Ivy,
or to wait a year and apply as a freshman to the Ivy? </p>

<p>What do you gain, if anything, by going to 2 diff. colleges for undergrad?
What's it like transfering to an Ivy? What if you're not prepared? What about the social environment? </p>

<p>Except for Cornell which has formal transfer agreements with some of the NY State community colleges, most of the Ivies admit very few transfer students each year (Princeton doesn’t admit any at all). Of those who are successful at getting in, most would have been viable candidates had they applied as freshmen.</p>
