First in Family - Verification

My daughter will be the first in her (imediate) family to attend college. Do the schools have a way to verify this, or will she be required to provide verification (and how would we be able to do so)?

Thanks in advance.

She will have to fill out the parent information section, and in doing so she will be labeled a “first generation college student” No verification necessary!

In general, families should check what various colleges consider first-gen. For some it is extended to completing the degree. For others, it is first to attend college.

This is an old quote from a dean at UVA: The general definition of a first generation college student (not UVa’s definition…we don’t really need to have a different one) is a student whose parents did not enroll in post-secondary school. In the cases above, a parent enrolled in college, [but did not complete,] *so I wouldn’t call the student first gen. *
