Hello everyone! I am a freshman in college and I just got my first semester grades back. They didn’t turn out so well either. I dropped out of calc so I have W on my transcript and I got a F as a final grade in my physics class. I took 6 classes this semester in total and for the rest of them I got all A’s and one B+. However my gpa is a 2.2 now but I have one course which I am pretty sure I got a B+ in. I am worried how my transcript is going to look after this. Please tell me what I should do. I already signed up for physics again next semester and in my college if you retake a course again they replace the grade on the transcript.
Thanks
It sounds like you overloaded. Take fewer classes next semester. It sounds like there is plenty of time to recover, so I wouldn’t worry long term. Focus on not biting off more than you can chew next semester.
My first semester (or rather, first year) of college looked pretty much the same grades wise (the W and all). I failed a math course because I’d already withdrawn a different course I didn’t really need and was performing poorly in because I was afraid it would affect my financial aid. Other than those hiccups, I did fairly well in my courses. It’s relatively normal to stumble in your first year of college. It could be due to a disconnect between high school versus college expectations, time management struggles or (as seems the case here) taking on more than you can at once. But don’t panic. Once you address the problem and continue to learn what works for you and what doesn’t, you’ll find your GPA going up each semester–and it can, especially this early in the game.
Best of luck!
Yeah for next semester I decided to take less classes and I’m glad I made that decision. The only thing I have to worry about now is showing my parents my grades lol.
Thanks for responding PengsPhils and Allegories!
Tell your parents this: my freshman year I flunked calculus, got a D and a C- in chem, and a C- and C in religious studies.
9 years later I walked across the stage to get my PhD. A year after that I joined the faculty of a top-fifty university, where I still teach.
Almost everyone blows their freshman year. It does not define you.
